Welcome BACK to The Mission Briefing.
I know it’s been a little while - after 74 issues and 1.5 years, I needed a quick break.
But not only that, I’ve been processing through a lot and working with the Lord and other men to further clarify the vision and mission I have for Mission-Fit Dads.
More on that for another day…
Last week I was writing some new content for a men’s project I’m working on with our team at Forming Men, and then over the weekend I was helping some friends out in North Carolina with some unique relief efforts out in the Asheville area.
Between these two experiences last week, something began to stir in my heart pretty heavily and brought up a topic that I wanted to revisit with y’all.
That topic is that of the fierceness of Christ.
In the Church today, we’re often given a bit of a sterilized picture of Jesus.
Yes it’s true that Jesus is the full picture of God’s grace, love, and mercy in the flesh. He absolutely does love you deeply and desire to walk with you for eternity. He desires that all men would come to the knowledge of the truth, and there is an open door for men to walk through into the family of God. We cannot lose sight of this reality and must hold to and share with the world the hope we have in Christ.
That said, the love of Christ and the patience of Christ only carries it’s full weight in our heart and minds when we contrast it by understanding just how much restraint he exercises on behalf of each of us. When we fully understand what he’s capable of. How he has restrained his wrath, power, and fierceness, in part, for a season…for you and me.
But just because we don’t see the wrath of Jesus on display during his earthly ministry doesn’t remove its reality and truth. The Biblical narrative in fullness shows us the full truth about the person of Jesus.
I believe the picture of Jesus has been sterilized by the Church specifically around his fierceness, wrath, and judgement.
So this week, I want to make the case for an inherent fierceness and capacity for violence that Jesus has, and then show you what that means for you and I as fathers.
Next week I want to expand on this issue, and make the case for health and fitness and how we can gather what we need to make that case directly from the life of Jesus in the Gospels.
But for now…fierceness:
