MB #077: If only I had my gun...

A true Halloween nightmare + Extreme hide & seek

Read Time: ~5 Minutes

So we took our kids trick or treating this week (like most everyone) and the unbelievable happened…

It wasn’t any old Halloween, for several reasons.

Firstly, we don’t typically trick or treat. We usually just celebrate Reformation day and the kids get a couple treats and we have some Fall fun with pumpkins and apple cider, etc.

This year, my mother-in-law asked if we wanted to come trick or treat in her neighborhood. This was the neighborhood (next door to grandma) we lived in before we moved to Texas a few years back. It’s a small rural neighborhood with a loop of homes all sitting on around 1-3 acres. A peaceful, quiet, and family-friendly spot.

So although we don’t usually give Halloween much of our attention, we agreed and decided to go enjoy it.

It was raining and dark and I was walking our 4 oldest boys (2, 4, 6, and 8 years old) around this neighborhood loop of homes.

As a former Army Ranger, I often legally conceal carry a pistol. This particular day I decided not to. I thought, “This is our old neighborhood, it quiet, and most people don’t even know it exists out here in the county outskirts. I’m driving straight to it on back roads and straight home. I’m probably fine to leave it.”

So I did.
