MB #004: A Quick Tip For The Christmas & New Years Weeks
Read time: ~3 Minutes
Hey friends,
First of all, Merry Christmas! I hope y'all are having a wonderful weekend with family and friends, as we all hopefully take some time to celebrate and rest.
Since it's Christmas, I'll keep this short, but I didn't want to leave you hanging without an issue of the newsletter. I'm trying to ensure one is going out every Sunday, as promised.
Let's talk briefly about one of the most underrated topics when it comes to our health. And that topic is rest.
We need all forms of rest. Rest for our soul, our body, and our mind.
We're designed to have a cyclical pattern to our weeks, months, and years where rest is as much a central focus as our work and efforts are.
The problem is we never talk much about it. We, as a culture, always talk about what we are "doing", and the grind, the hustle, and the striving. But what's most important is not what you do, but who you're becoming.
And who we become over time, is equally dependent on rest as it is on action.
I posted some short thoughts about this topic here on LinkedIn and talked about both the scientific proof that we need rhythmic rest every 7 days, as well as the faith-driven reasons.
But rest every 7 days isn't all we need. We also need times each year and throughout the year to memorialize a season. To reflect and appreciate. To evaluate and learn. To celebrate and pray/dream for the future.
The Christmas and New Year window of the year always seems to be a great time to do these things.
Our family does something every Christmas season that we call the Cirullo Family Summit. We personally use this guide from our close friends over at Abrahams Wallet to lead us through some questions that help us assess the past year, celebrate, plan, dream, etc. I highly recommend it.
So I encourage you...rest, celebrate, worship, enjoy, and do things that are good for restoring your soul.
Your physical health depends on rest as much as your mental and spiritual health does.
With that said, get back to resting. Merry Christmas!
